In The Air
I made it to Las Vegas. I love to fly. There is always the hustle to get into the plain when you are on your way it is always an amazing experience.
I love to look out of the window and imagine how it would be to be down there. How it would look like, feel like and smell like. I imagine all the adventures I would have if I would be down there.
Flying to Las Vegas is really crazy because for a long time you fly over the desert. There is no vegetation, no signs of life. And suddenly there is this big city and you land. It feels like a shock to the system after seeing only dirt for an hour before. The moment you get out of the plane you are in a casino. The airport is a casino. And there are thousands of people flying in from all over the country. When I waited for a taxi there was a line of a few hundred people in front of me.
I was planning to use the hotel bus to get to my hotel but I missed it by five minuets, so I took a taxi. I am interested in people; I always talk to the cab driver. His name was Carl and he has been driving a cab for over 16 years. He also told me that he built his retirement home in Goldfield and old gold mining town with the population of 300 souls. He was very enthusiastic about the outback in Nevada. I would love to see these areas as well. From the plane I got an idea how desolate some of them must be.
Carl and a friend of his also host a radio show called “The Carl And Dusty Radio Show”. It is a show about Goldfield and the people who live there. Feel free to check it out it airs every Saturday 7 PM to 9PM Pacific Time and you can listen to the live stream at radiogoldfield.org.
When Carl dropped me off at the hotel he said that I should give him a call the next time I am in town and visit him. He said that he knows some real ghost towns, places that were abandoned after the gold rush and how amazing it would be to photograph them. I will definitely take him up on that.
My hotel is of course a casino as well. Everything seems to be about gamboling in this town. I took a shower and rested a little bit since I did not get any sleep at all last night. Will upload the post now and then make it over to the Vegas Strip to check that out.
Tonight is my friend’s bachelor party. At a certain point I will end up in a strip club. This is the second time in my life that I go to one and will be interesting because Vegas is so famous for its clubs. The first one I went to was in Queens. I am sure I will have something to write about tomorrow.
