Effortlessness

When I went to the New York Aquarium Saturday I was watching a walrus swimming in its tank from a window underneath the water line. A walrus is a very big and heavy animal. Females can be up to 2,000 pounds heavy males can even weight up to 4,500 pounds.

They are not doing very well on land. Because of their size they are very slow and their moves are clumsy. That changes completely when they are in the ocean though. The walrus I saw floated gracefully through the water with absolute effortlessness. It also was amazingly playful, gliding by the window to impress kids and adults alike with its size and elegance.

The whole scene reminded me on letting go of the ego. As long as we hold on to illusions about ourselves our moves are not smooth, we feel heavy and have a hard time to grow. But the moment we let go, the moment we forget about our self all weight is lifted and all that is left is playfulness, gracefulness and effortlesness.
