In The Rain
Today was a rainy day with a couple of strong thunderstorms. I spent most of the day at home working on the computer then I went out to run some errands and to go to the gym.
On my way back home after picking up some food for dinner at the health food store I saw this girl walking down the street with a friend of hers both covered in big white flags with red crosses. They walked towards the United Nations. The flag they were wearing is the flag of Georgia.
The story goes like this. There is a region in Georgia called Ossetia that wants to be separate. Most of the people who live there have Russian passports. Georgia wants to keep the region and uses force (why?). Russia invades Ossetia that legally is part of Georgia, to protect the people there from ethnic cleansing (so they say). While they are at it they start to bomb the rest of the country and start take over Georgia (why?). Now Georgia says Russia is doing ethnic cleansing. Georgia is a close ally of America. They even sent 2000 soldiers to fight in Iraq as part of the coalition. These troops have been airlifted back to Georgia by American planes to help fight back the Russian troops. Now the Russians are upset about America having used their planes………
It sounds like child’s play but it is not. People are dying, bombs are falling and there is the potential for a new world war. I listened to the news a lot today but it is so confusing. Who is right and who is wrong?
I started to imagine how it would be to have a council of elders, man and women with deep insights. I’m talking about people who are self-realized or at least close to it and know the human condition. Their purpose in life is to serve the world with their wisdom. If there is a conflict no military force is allowed to be used. The case has to be brought to the council and the council will find a solution that works for both sides. If force is used the “Army Of The World” which could be the UN as long as it is completely independent from any country will take over and fight the aggressor back.
But reality is different. Our leaders are unaware, have huge egos and are at war with themselves. They have been elected because we are at war with ourselves. They will carry the inner wars into the outer world.
I looked again at the image I shot this morning. It feels so peaceful and it is hard to imagine what is happening in Georgia at the same time. It reminds me on September 11th 2001. I was on the Eastside watching TV and saw the first tower collapse. I looked out of the window. It was one of the most beautiful days ever, blue sky, low humidity and the temperature was perfect. I was watching these two guys cutting grass and cleaning the sidewalk. I looked back at the television. Only a few miles away people were jumping of the remaining tower into certain death.
