Yes We Can!
Yesterday night was an amazing night, the best since I moved to New York City twelve years ago.I was nervous all day. What would happen? Would Barack Obama be able to make it? What if he would not be able to? I knew it would take me a long time to recover from a loss emotionally. After spending most of the day surfing the Internet to find any hints about what is going on I went to the gym only to find myself glued to a television set and not able to work out.The first results came in, positive ones for McCain. I was upset. Was this really happening? I tried to distract myself but I couldn’t.I left the gym and went to the Slipper Room in the Lower Eastside to meet Julia and my friend Marco who celebrated his birthday yesterday.More results came in and it looked better for Obama. They had a political comedy show at the Slipper Room what was a good thing since it distracted me from thinking about the election. After the show it looked even better for Mr. Obama. I felt more relaxed. That had also to do with the four or five drinks I had at that point already to calm down my nerves. Then for a seemingly endless time nothing happened. I got a text from my sister Nina who was saying that she starts to get worried. McCain was catching up but only minuets later the race was over.Mr. Obama was the elected president of the United States of America and everybody in the place started jumping, screaming, hugging and crying. The Slipper Room had gone wild. New York had gone wild.America and the rest of the world had changed forever. "Yes We Can!" Williamsburg/Brooklyn/Mr. Obama on my computer screen 11/05/08 at 11:56 PM
