Battlestar Galactica (reimagined)

One reason why I had a hard time keeping up with the blog was my addiction to the Battlestar Galactica series. I still remember watching the original back in Germany in the early eighties.

The basic story is that humanity (good) gets attacked and destroyed by robots they created called the Cylons (bad). Only a few humans survive and are on the run while they are constantly attacked by the Cylons. They are living on different space ships (the fleet) and are guarded by a military ship (Battlestar Gallactica) while they try to find a mysterious planet called “Earth”.

Time magazine proclaimed Battlestar the best show on television in December 2005.

I don’t know if that is true or not since I personally don’t watch television but after working myself through season 1, 2 and 3 a total of 53 episodes I have to admit that I have never done something like that with any other show and that I feel like a member of the Battlestar crew by now.

There is something so amazing about space exploration. It feels like the ultimate adventure. You are going to places you have never seen before. But the writers also made the story and the characters so interesting. My favorite one is Adama the captain of the Battlestar played brilliantly by Edward Olmos (Blade Runner, Miami Vice) but there are also many other amazing characters.

What I love about the show is that the lines between right and wrong are blurred constantly. What is right? What is wrong? Fighting against the Cylons reminds at a certain point very much on the war on terror. Again the question comes up what is the right thing to do.

Please check it out. I can only highly recommend it. For a moment I was slightly relieved when I finished season 3 since I spent so much time watching it only to find out that season 4 (another 20 episodes) was just released on DVD.

I guess I keep on exploring the universe. :-)
