Back In Black
Shortly after I came back from Germany the big day had arrived. I was finally testing for my black shirt (assistant teacher) in Wing Tsun Kung Fu.
Back in blackI hit the sackI've been too long I'm glad to be back [I bet you know I'm...]Yes, I'm let looseFrom the nooseThat's kept me hanging aboutI've been looking at the sky'Cause it's gettin' me highForget the hearse 'cause I never dieI got nine livesCat's eyes
More then five years have past since that day I went with my roommates to a nearby bar when a couple of drunk guys tried to start a fight. I remember how afraid I was.
Forget the hearse 'cause I never dieI got nine livesCat's eyesAbusin' every one of them and running wildCHORUS:'Cause I'm backYes, I'm backWell, I'm back
At that point I had been regularly going to the gym for about 10 years and was practicing Ashtanga yoga 5 days per week but I did not know to handle a fight. Being physically strong did not change my self-perception of being week and unable to stand up for myself.
Yes, I'm backWell, I'm back, back(Well) I'm back in blackYes, I'm back in black CHORUS
I never was a typical guys guy. My family always considered me this sensitive person that can not handle any confrontation, problems or life itself and as with so many other things I believed them and these ideas became my reality.
Well, I'm back, Yes I'm backWell, I'm back, backWell I'm back in blackYes I'm back in black
The day after the experience at the bar I called my friend Klaus who had told me that he had started to learn kung-fu. Within a week I went to City Wing Tsun and signed up.
hooo yeahOhh yeahYes I amOooh yeah, yeah Oh yeahBack in now
Five years of going twice per week followed. It wasn’t easy. Coordination was always a problem for me. I still remember training to catch a ball with my father behind the house. In ball games at school I had a hard time with that and the other kids would make fun of me. During these five years I was often frustrated with myself because I just did not seem to get it. I pissed off girlfriends because I would go to class instead of hanging out with them and invested countless hours into training. Some of my kung fu brothers and sisters were able to test for the black shirt after only two years but I never gave up.
Well I'm back, I'm backBack, I'm backBack, I'm backBack, I'm backBack, I'm back
The test was tough, very tough. I also just had taken a three months brake because of an injury and my trip to Germany. It took over two hours and the last part was fighting the entire school for three minuets, what ended up to be the longest three minuets of my life.
I want to take this opportunity to thank most and foremost Sifu Alex Richter (read what he had to say about the test on page 2). I could not have asked for a better teacher. Him always believing in me, his teaching stile and excitement for the art of kung fu kept me going. I also want to thank the countless kung-fu brothers and sisters that trained with me over the years and made this community feel like a family that is focused on getting each of its members to progress.
BackBack in blackYes I'm back in black
But this black shirt to me is mainly about my friend Klaus who as I mentioned introduced me to kung-fu. People who met him knew he was a kung -fu grandmaster at heart. Klaus unfortunately never wore a black shirt since his life was cut short by a motorcycle accident two years ago.I dedicate this black shirt to you my friend!
