Peace Of Mind (Part 1)

Yesterday I watched “Letters From Iwo Jima” a movie directed by Clint Eastwood. Mr. Eastwood shot two movies about the battle for the Japanese island “Iwo Jima” in February/March 1945 in the Pacific. One movie “Flags Of Our Fathers” shows the battle from American side, the other one “Letters From Iwo Jima” shows the same battle from Japanese side and is shot in Japanese with English subtitles.

To me both movies are masterpieces. They show the insanity of war. It is unbelievable what human beings are capable of doing to each other.

That brings me to what I want to talk about today. In earlier posts I talked about that as inside so outside, that the world outside of ourselves is just a projection of what goes on inside of us. How must the world inside of people have looked like to create the Second World War?  What gigantic battles must people have fought inside of themselves to create so much pain and suffering on the outside?

I did some research on Iwo Jima. Of the 21,000 Japanese soldiers that were on the island when the fighting began 20,703 died in the battle. The Allied forces suffered 27,909 casualties. A total of 48,612 lives lost for an island covered with rock and stones.

How much hate, darkness and cruelty must have existed in the minds of humanity? What has changed since then?

Not much besides having more refined weapon systems. There are many wars around the world; we keep on killing each other.

Who is responsible for these wars? Who is responsible if reality is a projection of all our inner worlds onto an empty canvas?

We all are!

What can prevent an Iwa Jima from happening again? The only hope for the world is that we start immediately working on ourselves as hard as we can to find out who we really are, toss out all the false ideas and beliefs and with that transcend our anger and hatred.

By loving ourselves we can find piece of mind. Only peaceful minds can create a peaceful world.
