A Course in Miracles (Round 3)
I decided to do the Course in Miracles this year again. This to me one of the two most challenging spiritual book I ever got my hands on. It was channeled by Helen Schucman and William Thetford, Professors of Medical Psychology at Columbia University Collage of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. Helen received the information, wrote it down with a shorthand and dictated that to Brian later who typed it out. To finish the 669 pages textbook, 487 page workbook for students and 92 page manual for teachers took about seven years. In the text Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God are often mentioned but if you don't let this discourage you the text is profound. This is how these 1248 pages are summarized within the book:Nothing real can be threatened.Nothing unreal exists.Herein lies the peace of God.The workbook for students has 365 lessons, one for each day of the year. I went through the textbook twice already, once in the late 90's and a second time 2001. I like to start on the 1. of January and finish on New Year's Eve. In hindsight I had to admit that I was not able to fully grasp the message. So here we go, round 3 is on. Todays lesson for day 7 (I wrote this a few days ago) of the year is "I see only the past". It relates to the first six lessons of the year and is such an important realization. Let me quote from todays lesson:This idea is particularly hard to believe at first . Yet it is the rationale for all the preceding ones. It is the reason why nothing that you see means anything. It is the reason why you have given everything you see all the meaning that it has for you. It is the reason why you don't understand anything you see. It is the reason why your thoughts don't mean anything and why they are like the things you see. It is why you are never upset for the reason you think. It is the reason why you are upset because you see something that is not there. The idea is that we don't see what is but what we project on the world around us. Our experiences are the past. Since we are projecting the past onto the now we only see the past. Then you start to practice this thought:I see only the past in this pencil.I see only the past in this shoe.I see only the past in this hand.I see only the past in that body.I see only the past in that face.Again as I said before to me one of the two most powerful spiritual books I know, to me only "I Am That" by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj can keep up with it. If you want something to really rock your world get a copy, you will not be disappointed.
