Two images nominated at the International Color Awards
I have not taken part in many photo competitions but last year I decided to change that. I submitted two images to the International Color Awards, an internationally renown color photography competition that just happened for the 16th time.
The jury, which changes every year, was comprised of some of the most influential names in the industry:
The National Gallery of Art - Washington DC, The J. Paul Getty Museum - Los Angeles, The Art Channel - London, Groninger Museum - Netherlands, Koller Auctions - Zurich, Preus Museum – Norway, Throckmorton Fine Art Gallery - New York, Publicis Groupe - Warsaw, Chung 24 Gallery - San Francisco, Kolle Rebbe - Hamburg, Photo-Eye Gallery - Santa Fe, High Museum of Art – Atlanta, Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr Auctions – Brussels, Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) - Philadelphia, William Shearburn Gallery - Saint Louis, Museo d'arte Moderna di Bologna (MAMbo) - Bologna and Clamp Gallery - New York
Did I win first prize? No. But to my surprise this time I received an email.
Out of 6,573 received images from 72 countries 608 title awards were given and 916 were nominated in 37 categories. Apparently my work had received a high percentage of votes overall, both images ended up being nominated, one in the people and one in the portrait cathegory.
Is this a huge success? I think so. Yes, it would have been nice to win the grand prize but to take part in a competition like that with so many talented photographers and to have two images out of two submissions being nominated, also considering that both images were shot way more than a decade ago, is great!
But even if I wouldn’t see being nominated as a success I have to accept for sure now that I was way ahead of my time when I took those images. :-)
Many thanks to the jury of the International Color Awards!
“Be yourself” was nominated in the people category:
“Meaning of Life” was nominated in the portrait cathegory:
